GLOBAL FOOTPRINT
Programme and policies aligned with international treaties
India is an official signatory to many international treaties such as the UNCRC. ChildFund’s programme and policies are aligned and contributory to these commitments. Our ethos, work and structure are guided by these values.
Cross-learning and scaling up
From time-to-time, ChildFund shares its experiences and learnings at international forums. It participates in discussions and planning processes that enable the international community to benefit from cross-learning and customize and scale up development solutions.
Towards Millennium Development Goals(MDGs)
ChildFund has contributed significantly to India’s commitment towards achieving the Millennium Development Goals. Its programs have consistently focused on education, maternal and child health (including child mortality), partnership, HIV/AIDS and other diseases, eradication of poverty, gender equality and women’s empowerment, and building global partnership for developmental work.
NATIONAL FOOTPRINT
Our contribution to social capital
ChildFund has significantly contributed to the social capital of India by maintaining and capacitating grass root level organizations.
Reaching the Unreached
We strive to integrate the lives of people in communities facing marginalisation that have been overlooked by development initiatives or those residing in challenging landscapes. The majority of our initiatives are concentrated in remote rural regions, such as the tribal areas of Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, and Jharkhand. Some of these areas have yet to be reached by government agencies.
Sustainable support and positive outcomes
ChildFund has significantly contributed to nation building efforts by providing sustainable support, to achieve positive outcomes in the lives of children experiencing deprivation, exclusion, and vulnerability. We support children from birth until they reach 24 years of age. Our long-term commitment has enabled us to bring about lasting solutions through innovative approaches. Our programs have been designed to address the basic needs of health, education, livelihood, and child protection to help children explore their full potential and realize their dreams.
Resilience through participatory planning
Participatory planning in ChildFund has enabled empowerment of communities and enhanced resilience of the society in India. Our program planning incorporates contextual situational analysis which is based upon a series of consultative processes. Capturing Childrens’ voices is an integral part of these processes.
Strengthening community structures
Communities are considered key stakeholders in the design and implementation of our programmatic interventions. We involve communities via a two-pronged strategy:
- Strengthen existing community structures formed under government programs which includes Village Health, Sanitation and Nutrition Committees (VHSNC), School Management Committees (SMC), Village Education Committees and Gram Panchayats (village level elected local body). This approach helps to ensure their participation in the decision-making process for the entitlements enshrined in government schemes.
- Create community institutions like child clubs, youth clubs, village development committees and women self-help groups.
Promotion of girl child
ChildFund’s special girl child programs are significant contribution to the government’s ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ (‘protect the girl child, educate the girl child’) campaign. Our diverse life stage programs not only focus on ensuring the survival of the girl child but also make concerted efforts to equip each girl child with the tools and support needed to thrive.
In our programs, there are more girls and young women at 54.95%, while boys and young men make up 45.05%.
Special scholarship are provided to selected girls to facilitate their access to higher education and enable them to pursue suitable career paths.
